Rokadia Hanuman Temple in Anand

With utmost prominence among pilgrims and devotes, the popularity of Anand as a religious place remains intact. Among several other temples and shrines, there is one small but extremely prominent place of worship that is regarded as a place of profound spiritual sanctity that is Shri Rokadia Hanuman Mandir in Anand.

Rakodia Hanuman Temple is dedicated to lord Hanuman the Monkey God. The temple is located at the top of Hanuman of Tekro also called the Hanuman Hill. The temple was constructed by king Mayurdhwaj of Kheda. It is the one of the very few temples belonging to Swaminarayan Sampraday in which the central deity is not Hanuman. And this is the only temple in which the central deity is Lord Hanuman. In other temples where human gods are not the central deity, Hanuman idols are placed along with Lord Ganpati (the Elephant God).

Significance of Rakodiya Hanuman Temple in Anand

This is one of the very prominent temples of the Swaminarayan Sampraday. The believers say that the idol of Lord Hanuman placed in this temple is so powerful that a mere glimpse on it can heal the devotees inflicted by the evil spirit. Saturday is the day that is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. And hence every week this day is designated when special rituals are observed to cure mental illness and other ailments and disorders that effect people.

The Hanuman Idol at Rakodiya Hanuman Temple in Anand

The image placed here of Lord Hanuman is a corpulent figure with a handlebar moustache atop a smiling monkey face on the head of which is placed a beautiful and expensive crown. Baring his teeth, the Idol is depicted crushing a female demon under his foot. The idol is placed at the center fruit bearing monkey attendants sculpted behind on the wall. The idol is a bejeweled colorful one with a golden gada or gadak called mace in English, placed at the foot of the idol.

The temple is believed to have received a reflection of Lord Hanuman as a representative of truth. The temple is also a famous tirth or pilgrimage of Swaminarayan Sect. the believers say that the Lord grants the wishes of the truthful worshippers who visit this temple.

Establishment of Rakodiya Hanuman Temple in Anand

Shreeji Maharaj was a pious man who forgave even those who use to talk harsh about him and his disciple and threw dung at him. During his spiritual journey Lord Sahajanad Swami visited Anand to make common people aware of their responsibility towards and perceptions of their inner self. The Lord entered the city through the holy pond known as Shikhod Talav along with his royal train of seers, bachelors and attendants.

When he reached into the city he came to Anandgiri Gossai’s orchard to fetch water to bath him and other seers. After doing ablution with the water, Swami ji conducted a divine convention along the well in the orchard sitting on a stone. The holy well is still live at Rakodia Hanuman Temple at Anand. The stone is seen as a symbol of sacred bliss is still preserved till date.

After the convention, Anandgiri Gossai gifted his mango orchard to Swami Ji as a token of his devotion. The temple is established on this land.

You can hire an auto rickshaw from Anand  railway station or bus stop. The Auto takes nominal charges to drop you at the Rakodia Hanuman Dev Mandir. The state government of Gujarat plies state run buses to and from the temple at regular intervals. There is a direct bus service available from Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.
